Help Needed Please ;)

I wil be going to Sharm El Sheikh next week inshallah for a week with my bestfriend R. We have already planned and organised our stay in Sharm El Sheikh from tanning, to glass boat trips, to snorkling, to water gliding, to scubadiving, to fishing etc. We have even memorised the names of the places to go to in Ne3ma Bay and what to do and get from there. So as you can see everything is setteled for our stay in Sharm.

But being two crazy people and wanting to explore the Pyramids, the National Museum, Khan Al Khalil, Kahwitt Al Feeshawi , the Hilton & Sameeramis Malls (Lizzardroom), etc. we decided to visit Cairo during our one week stay. I will be needing the advice and help of my fellow bloggers living in Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh in a couple of things.

1) We were given 2 names of Buses to transfer us from Sharm to Cairo (Superjet & Golden Arrow -AlSahm Al Dahabi-). They told us that the trip is 6 hours long and they work on a schedule. So i would like to know if it is safe to travel at night in these buses ? For example if we take the bus that leaves Sharm at midnight so we can reach Cairo by 6 am - is it safe to be on such a bus? or shall we wait till the morning and take that instead? Do you have any idea how much would that cost us? Do you know of any other buses? Do yo have an idea about the schedule? Everyone told us that Superjet was better for it will drop us at Meedan Al Tahreer in Cairo which is like a center point to all the places we want to go to. What do you think?

2) We were recommended to stay at the SHEPHERD Hotel (i donno if the spelling is correct) in Cairo for it is 3 minutes walk from Meedan Al Tahreer which is good for us so we would catch the bus on the way back and not carry all the shopping from the Malls and Khan al Khaleel around. We also have Nile Hilton, Pyramiza, Atlas & Al Nabeela on the list. We really prefer SHEPHERD for it is next to the Hilton and Samiramees's Malls, next to the National Museum etc. What do you recommend?

3) We will be staying for one night in Cairo, So the schecule will have to be: Reach Cairo from Sharm, reserve going back ticket from the Bus Station, Check in the Hotel, Visit the Musuem, crash the Malls, then Khan Al Khalil, enjoy the nights of Cairo, next morning take taxi/bus to the Pyramids, then return to Khan Al Khalil, then Check out, go to bus station for return to Sharm.

Any suggestions? ideas? tips?

Please feel free to leave any tips or comments for they might help a lot ;) Would you recommend anything else? Any special places we shouldn't miss? We can elongate the stay for two days if there is something worth the stay for a visitor ;)

Thanx a lot in advance ;)

Bossy ya setty,

First of all, I don't like the idea of Sharm-Cairo-Sharm. It is better to save time and go to Sharm first then to Cairo and from Cairo back to UAE, as you are leaving from Cairo Airport, so it is better to keep the Cairo trip at the end of your visit.

For the buses, Superjet & Golden Arrow are the best, the trip takes 6 hours and it is very save to do it at night. The superjet station is in tahirir (down-town) i.e., very close to Shepard Helnan hotel.

As for the hotels, Semeramis Intercontinental is better than Helnan and just beside it. However, it is more expensive. I have no idea about the prices but it is around $180 for the double room. However, I heard (not sure) that if you are gonna stay for less than 3 days you can have it for $90 only (you have to book the nights through a travel agency).
Nile Hilton and Pyramiza are good too, but the Hilton is better. However, I don't recommend Atlas and Al Nabila.

Concerning the malls, The CITY STARS is the biggest mall in Cairo. It can take you 15 to 60 minutes from the Shepard Hotel to the City Stars, it depends on the roads:)
Also, you have Arcadia mall which is about 15 minutes from the Sheppard (also, depends on the roads). Ramsis Hilton mall is very close to you too. However, the CITY Stars is still the best. There is also the FIRST MALL. It is quite a small mall but it sells expensive brands (signee) besara7a not worth going.

Regarding the outings, You will visit the museum which is very close to tahrir. You can also go to khan el khalili and stay at el fishawy or Nagib Mahfouz café. If you are interested in silver wear, then khan el khalili is your place:)
You can also go on a night Nile cruise (example:Nile Maxim or Nile pharaoh). The tour is about 2 hours in the Nile which a band, a singer, and maybe a dancer together with dinner.
Also, you can have lunch in the Nile City or the Pasha which are restaurants by the River band where you can find different cuisines in each one (French, Italian, Mexican).

If you can elongate the trip for two days, then you can take the fairy from Sham to hurgada & gouna or maybe you can visit Saint Catherine Mountains (never been there but they say it is worth seeing).
Also, while you are in Sharm don't forget to go on a bedwen night (they call it safari or something). And enjoy the sea activities like parasailing, scuba diving, glass bottom boat, snorkeling, banana boat:)

Enjoy yr trip:)

Thanx for all the help;) I will take your info into consideration;) I think we both like the Shepard Helnan as i said before so we only now have to decide when to book it. As for the sharm-cairo-sharm we cannot change that for we are going/returning through Sharm's airport.

Is it true that all places are shut on Sunday? What about Friday with the prayers and everything do they work half day? Can we go like saturday midnight to arrive sunday at 6am to cairo then check in and then go to pyramids till mid day and then enjoy the khan al khalili and the rest? Or is it better if we go Sunday night and comeback Tuesday night?

Thanx a lot, really appreciate your help.

Best wishes and May God bless you x x x

Thanx a lot Jane. So how was your exam? or you haven't done it yet? Best of wishes ;) Good Luck!

Hello Lahore ;) Kite Fest! First time to hear about it ;) See everyday we learn new things even if we think that we know everything hehehehehehehehe SO is thar fest a national tradition or a family tradition? I have seen some kite races among the Pakistani population in UAE but it seems that i always miss the party to follow heehehehehehehehehe No seriously they usually have those in the biggest 2 parks in Dubai (Safa and Khor) and you can see the sky filled with every single color you could imagine ;) By the way, here in UAE this kite race is organised by Paks but you can always spot a couple of non Paks participating in the kite race;) Hope you enjoy it and waiting for pictures ;) Especially of innovative and creative kite designs ;)

Thank you ;) I won't be going before next week so i still have time to organise the trip more ;)

Most of the shops close on Sunday. As for Friday some shops open and some close only for half an hour during the gom3a prayer. I prefer if you leave on Sunday Night to be on the safe side.

I also forgot to tell you that you can take a taxi from the hotel to the pyramids for about $4 or $5. You can take a lemo from the hotel but it will cost you around $20.

BTW, I prefer Semirames IF you get the $90 rate. It is very close to Shepard but more luxurious.

my advice is take a break and don't bother bring ur laptop with u. there will be a business center at the hotel so u can log on or there are a lot of internet cafes here ... isA it's gonna be a pleasant trip.
